EMPLOYMENT SURVEY

The half-yearly return of' employment information, which the Nacional Employment Service has been engaged upon during the past six weeks, has now been completed, and the relative figures of the last nve groups are supplied by the District Employment Officer, Mr. L. W. Cozens. Vacancies in eaeh group are shown in parenthesis: Wholesale and retail trade, males 1660 (23), females 956 (10); financial, males 146, females 69; insurance 16 (1), females 17 (1); local authority service, males 985 (16), females 537; law and miscellaneous organisatlons, males 30 (2) , females 77 (1). The completion of the survey has resulted in very informative aafca being obtained in relation to every industry in the district. The val'ue, both to Government and employers, will be further enhanced when the next half-yearly survey is completed. This is due in October, and the results then obtained, taken comparatively vfith the Api;il return, will provide a true picture of the movement of labour between industries, and also reveai the exfcent to which vacancies remain unfilled, together with the general employment position. The assistance given to the authorities by employers has resulted in the preparation of a return which presents a static picture as at April 15, 1946. The October return. which employers will be required to complete, is a month by month statement for the next half-yearly period.
