Keeeived Wednesday, 7 p.m. - BRISBANE, July 3. A drastic cut in tansport services was announced today f ollowing the failure of the compulsory conference yesterday to settle the me^t and coal strikes. Rail services were reduced today and a further curtailment of suburban and country services will operate tomorrow. Only one train a week will lcave Brisbane for North Queensland and the west and southwest areas of the State. Trams will eease at 1 p.m. on Saturday and will not resnme until Monday morning. Thxis there will be no transport for tlie second- League Test except by motor vehicles. Further power and light restrict?ons are also certain and will close down industries, throwi-ng thousands more out of work. Another week will elapse before the secret ballot is completed. The people are becoming impatient with the hardship - and are expected to demand drastic action by the Government under emergency powers. Brisbane is a city of -gloom with the prospect of greater suffering.
