SATURDAY'S GAME GUIDE FOR FUTURE CLASHES
The representative rtigby match to be played at Palmerston North on Saturday between Horowhenua and Manawatu promises to be a good test for the, coming rep. clashes of both unions. The Horowhenua Union has not played a major senior match , for several seasons and their supporters will watch them with interest to see how the Horowhenua Union's experiment of three years in piaying first junior, then colts and now senior representative. matches, turns out. The Horowhenua eoliteam, last year distinguished itseli by defeating Manawatu colts and a rep. team picked from Wellington Hardham Cup players. The Horowhenua team this year is chosen from the seven teams competing in the senior competition, and comprises quite a few returned men and last year's colts. The selector, Mr. R. Sands, has had a big job to do and his team on paper promises to do big things. The front row comprises R. Taylor, who is a last year rep, colt, R. McCashin, ex-Manawatu and Horowhenua representative footballer, who is captain of-' the team. G. Ramsbottom, who recently turned down a good offer to play for one of Auckland's leading league teams, is the other front row man. The locks are S. Bartholomew, a last year's colt, and T. W^aka, who played Navy football in England. J. Corbishley, who is re.cognised by many as the best forward in the union and S. Heperi, who is being nominated for the N.Z. Maori team, are the breakaways, while the last man down in the scrum is Roy Robinson, a last year rep. colt. At half-back is D. Blenkhorn, • who played for the Navy overseas. A. Hakaraia, the first five-eighths, played outstanding rugby for thve Maori Battalion team. W. Galloway, at second, is one of those versatile backs who are ever a danger as an attacking force and excellent on defence. He is an exAir Force player. Hudson, as centre, will be playing his first representative match and only needs to play his usual club game to hold his position in the Horowhenua rep. team. Both the wings are noted for their speed, H. Cook being exceptionally fast, while D. Aitchison, v/ho has represented Horowhenua before, will be remembered as winger in Tom Morrisson's army team. D. Pedersen, the full-back, will most certainly catch the selector 's eye if play comes his way. Pedersen has been playing very good club football. The reserves, N. Gordon, D. Fuller, C. Mortimer, A. McNeil, W. Blanch and L. Nicol, have all played representative football before.
