HAxMILTOA, July i. Covering nearly every jxhase of the expected development of the Waikato Kiver basin, the Minister of Works ' (Hon. E. Seinple) anuounced tlie i Government 's plans for developinont work in the area at a speeial xneeting in Hamilton today, when representaI tives of all locaJ oodies, regxonai couuj cila and Xlovernment departments affeeted by the works attcnded. i In outiining tlie proposals Mr. Semple ' stressed tliat the works were those the Governmcnt had in view for the ncxt ton years but no programmes had been druwh up and no priorities laid down. Tliese proposals wcre the broad outlines | of a suitable plan and the programmes of works would be drawn up with those plans as a basis, when it was possible to begin any constructional work. The Governinent contemplated a Government centrc in Hamilton and \ new post oftices at Atorrinsville, 31atatnata, Te Awatnutu, Pukekohe and Te ; Kuili. A Soil Fertility Itesearch Station would be built near Hamilton and an Animal Itesearch Laboratory at Euakura. Ari addition would be made to the Tokanui Mental Hospital and a new.polico station for Hamilton was proposed. The ten-year plan also euvisaged new througli liighways, the wiilening of major existing routes, the eliiuinatioii of e.visting railway level crossings, the construetion of a new passenger station at Frankton to serve . both Hamilton and Frankton, and new shunting yards to be beyond the residetilial area. The plan incorporates additional schools and residential areas und parks.
