SYDNEY, Ju'ly 1. In a erash landing at Essendon ae ro droiue, Melbourne, yesterday, a Dougla?Dakota airliner jumped a aft. stone j wall, sniaslied th rough a dividing fenee I and carae to rest in an adjoining pad dock. The plane was extensively damaged, but the 17 passengers and the crew of three were not hurt. One enginc of the plane cut out when it was conunenciug its fliglit to Tasmania. The machine landed in mud at the edge of tlie aerodrome and skiddeil, partlv out of con trol, until liually coming to rest with the fuselage intact. The faultv motor was toru out when the plane juinpod j the wall. Most of the passengers lef't on a later plane for Tasmania. Bad weather yeSterday eaused icing j 011 the wings of air-liners, and (,'ronulin residents (illed ice-boxes with piecewhieh rained down from the Melbourne Sydney plane. The machines are litted with dc-icing equipiuent, but the ice usually melts before it reaclies tlie ground.
