Received Friday, 8.45 p.m. WASHINGTON, June 27. The Navy has disclosed that an experimental fighter plane shaped like a pancake~ and expected to he able to hover at a standstill or skim along at spesds to 550 miles hourly, is being built. The plane is known as the "Skimmer" and a full-scale model has alread-y shown that the design is practical. The combination of extreme low and high speeds is a radical departure. The high speed potential apparently results from the clean design while the low speed is presumahly made possible by flaps. The Nayy said the design lends itself to such structural strength permitting sharp txtrns and puilouts, that the possibility of the pilot being prone instead of upriglit, was being considered. y
