MAORI CHURCH CENTENARY

A meeting of the committee appointed by the Maori Synod to arrange for the celebration of the centenary'- of ; the- ereotion^of ■ the* Rangiatea Church is to be held shortly. Its aim will be to fittingly observe the approaching centenary of the Maori Church at Otaki, in the building of which Te Ruaparaha took a prominent part in the last years of his life. Rangiatea is one of the most historic Maori churches in New Zealand and is uniqu,e in the Wellington Diocese. The building is now in need of repairs, and it is hoped thal the committee will be enabled tc have that work done. It is alsr hoped that it will be in a positioi: to issue a commemorative bookle which will record the church's history. Rev. Paora Temuera, who i in charge of the Otaki district, i forming a sub-committee in tlia centre to stimulate interest among Otaki residents in their old church'; centenary.
