EARL'S DAUGHTER WINS CLAIM Lady Mary Catherine Charlotti Ashburnham, the . 56-year-oic daughter of the late fifth Earl of Ashburnham, has won a claim to keep a revolver by her bedside as a defence against burglars in her 100roomed ancestral mansion, where her only eompanions are four servants. The claim was contested by the police, who said that, if privaW individuals armed themselves criminals would do the same and f ': general shooting match would takt place up and down the copntry. . Lady Mary Ashburnharn, who entered a convent at the age of 22: with the intention of becoming a nun, but did not take the final vows, said she was an expe'rt shot, and needed the revolver. as the ser-, vants were such a long way from her bedroom that "they would be unable to come to her help in timi if she was attacked by a burglar. The Magistrate agreed with her and mentioned the recent robber: of priceless art treasures fron* Hever Castle, the residence o' Colonel J. J. Astor, which is still ar unsolved mystery.
