To- 1 day, ho-wevcr, .foutino ordcrs carry aj com-mcndatiou for mcritorious conduct displayed by W.O. II R. O. Thompson, of Raetihi, of the New Zealand Postal Unit. On. thc night of June 6 f^ergeantMajor -Thompson, with three other members of the postal unit, found three Japanese, had brokcn into tlic Post Offlee. The Japanese immediatcly made off pursued bj' the New Zealanders. Thompson caught one of the intrudors who drew a knife and stabbed' him iu the lcg. Althougli sulTcring from heavy lo.ss yf blood, Thompson continued lo struggle with the Japanese until liolp arrived. He received the New Zealand commander 's congratulations for his prompt and effieient action.
