BOWLING MEETING
Sir, — I may be unable to attend to-morrow night's meeting of the Otaki Bowling Club, and I would like to suggest that the club arrange for Pennants games, play for trophies so generously given by enthusiasts and cut out the club matches (championships) as these are only for a few. Let the selector or selectors do their duty and pick what they consider the best players to travel to Wellington for championship matches. Last sea- - son the whole business was very vnsatisfactory, and almost cut and dried. As for pennants games I understand the. centre arranges these for the beneflt of country clubs; then why not play? I think the Otaki Club was the only club which dld not compete. Then let us have a committee of members who have an interest in the club, and officers who are not purely figure-heads. I say, let's have a ■ good old change round. Now for Sunday tournaments. I care not what the club does in this respect, but I hope sick members and those - who have scarcely seen a bowl will not be swayed. If one or two, or more, are against Sunday play, then why should they debar others who like a game. Last season some of our ' members went to other greens, and those against Sunday tournaments took advantage of playing on the local green on the Sabbath day. Consistency, oh, where art thou? Let us all pull together for the common good of the game. Now, as for a selector or selectors. Our selector last season had a very difficult task, and as he had such a number of players who could not possibly be picked — a certain number had to be dropped— I think he d'id well. But if the club wants two or even three selectors, let members say so. Again, the draw from the box as to rinks is at times very unsatisfactory, and should be better balanced. I blame no one for this — it is the result of the draw. A last word. Letones and two in all games stand on the bank. Some get over the heads, say what should be done and what should not be done, and make a nuisance of themselves." And so say many of us. Yours etc., "A BRUMMY BOWLER." Otaki, June 26.
