MEETING AT SHANNON A number of church members gathered at the Presbyterian Church 011 Thursday afternoon for ■ the annual meeting of the British j and Foreign Bible Society. This | was the first meeting to be held in 1 Shannon for two years. The meeting opened with a prayer by Rev. Mr. Martin and a hymn by.those present. In the absence of the president, ! Mrs. J. A. Easton, Mr. Martin intro1 duced the new visiting secretary, I Miss Ennis, who outlined the activI ities of the society in a very interI esting address. Miss Ennis stated | that a number of Maori students I were at work on a new Maori translation of the Bible. It is expected that this work will be completed soon. A delightful afternoon tea- was served by the ladies of the Presbyterian Church. Visitors were also present from the Anglican and the Methodist Churchek. Miss Ennis spent ;Thufsday night in Shannon, where she was the guest of Mrs. Christenseli, and on Friday she attended a similar meeting at Tokomaru with the Rev. Mr. Martin.
