ENGLAND MEETS INDIA IN TEST
BOWLING PROVED TOO GOOD FOR BATSMEN Reeeived Sundav, 7 p.m. LONDON, .Tune 22. " A capacity crowd attended Lords for the Jirst day of the match India against England. India won the ,.toss and elected to bat. The batsmen never conqnered the ball throughout the six hours of play. The fast and medium bowling by Bedser (Engiand; and Auiarnath (India) on a neutral . wicket, was at times the batsman "s nightnnire and never a subject for liberties. Bedser bowled 29 overs with only two brief spells to change ends. His feat is one of the most remarkable for many1 seasons. He showed no signs of fatigue and no evidence of losing leilgth. Every wicket he secured was earned. The small, wiry Amarnath, with a short run aud terrilie arai work, worked up a tremeudous pace from the piteh. The ball which bowled Ilanimond when England 's captain seemed set for a big score, was a perfcet sizzler. Hcores: — INDIA.
