FAREWELL PARTY

MR. AND MRS. McSWEENY ENTERTAINED A very pleasant afternoon > was spent at' the residence of Mr.. and Mrs. Barron, of Matene Street, on Saturday, when Mr. and Mrs. McSweeny, who leave shortly to take up residence in the Dannevirke district, where the former will assume headmastership of a school . were entertained by friends. The room was tastefully decorated, while Mrs. Barron,* in an appropriate speech, first of all presented Mrs. McSweeny with a shoulder spray, and later with two of the latest books, while Mr. McSweeny was presented with a wallet. Mrs. Barron stated that she was only voicing the feelings of others when she stated how sorry she was that Mr. and Mrs. .McSweeny and family were leaving Otaki. While losing good friends, she knew that they had many friends in the district to which they were going; she wished them all happiness and success. ■ Both Mr. and Mrs. McSweeny replied, stating that it was with regret th'at they were leaving so many kind friends behlnd, but they assured all that Otaki and district residents would not be forgotten. During their stay in Otaki they had made many friends. Mr. McSweeny was for some time on the staff of the Otaki Statf* School, and more recently on the Shannon staff, while Mrs. Mc Sweeny has been co'nnected with various institutions in Otaki.
