SCHOOL BOYS AND SATURDAY SPORTS
WELLINGTON, June 19. The Director of Education will be asked by the New Zeuland Eootball Association what jurisdiction the principal of a secondary school has over the activities of the boys of his school on Baturday afternoons. The subject was raised in eorrespondence from the 'Otago Eootball Association which camo before the council of tho Xew Zealnnd Eootball Association last night, but meinbers asserted that the niatter was j a national one, and that it had arisen in 'Wellington recently. The Otago association stated that. boys played in its competil ion on Eridays, but a nuniber wislied to plJty-.in the club competitions 011 Hatnrdfiys. The principals had rilled that they could not do so, and this applied to R'ugby as vvell. The principals consideretl that two matches 011 conseeutiVe days took too mucli out of"~t1ih boys, but the association considered that the principals' jur.isdictioii over the boys ceased when they left their colleges on Friday, and that the boys should be able to please themselves as to what they did 011 Saturdtlys. The suggestion was made by a meirtber of the council tliat a legal opinionl sliould be obtained, but tliis was not. adopted. Instead, it was decided to ask tlre Director of Education for a ruling on tlie matter.
