British Gift to Greek Monks

The monks of a monastry in Crete helped eight British, Australian and New Zealand soldiers escape when the Germans seized Crete. Rec uitly "they received a cheque for £1500 from the British Government in recognition. It will be used,to rebuild the monastry whieh was sacked and lootgd by the Germans.
