DUNEDIN, .Tune 39. The Otago Education Board at Its 1 monthly meeting. today, did not agree with a suggestion from the Department of Education that country sehools be closed for eitlier a half or whole school j dav on a stated Friday or IMonday, proj vided they were open for a eorresponI ding period on Raturday. The propo-sal was made in response to a request that country sehools should make provision for sliopping by parents. Mr. D. G. Cameron expressed himself as strongly opposed to opening any ■ sehools on a Saturday. "If that praeiice came into existence," he said, "teachers, parents and pupils would not know where they were." Mr. C. E. Richards said that such an innovation could lead to a very difficult posiiion. He thonght that no action should be taken in the menntimo. The board, in a resolution, expressed its disapproval of the department's suggestions and recorded its opinion that sehools should not be opened on Saturdays in any circumstances.
