TORNADO DEATH ROLL
NEW YOUK, .Tulift.lS. Canada's freak five-minute tornado is believed to have killed at lCast 50 people. In Detroit there was little damage in the main parts of the eit.v, but Ihe police say that the suburb of River Rouge has been laid low. The tornado just missed the huge Pord motor wo'rks, wliicb reopened only vesterday after being idle for a montli. Tlie tornado was first reported by an airline pilot. He said that the "twister'' was moving at a torriiie. speed. "The cone stretched from the ground to the cloud-base, about 3000ft , up. It would hit the ground and dissipate and streteh down and hit the ground again, malting wliirlpools of the storm clouds elose to the ground. Lt was twisting and e.urling all the time. You could tell it would destroy anything it hit." A message from Windsor savs the tornado deatlirool was 13. Four of the 33 seriously injured are not expeeted to recover. Two hnndred persons were made .homeless. One farmer found his 4001b. refrigerator a mile frora his demolished farmhcruse.
