Received Thursday, 11.15 a.m. LONDON, June 19. Replying to a series of questions in the House of Commons about the Grand Mufti, the Minister of State, Mr. P. J. Noel-Baker, said the Government had received no confirmation of reports that he had arrived in the Middle East. Though it might be assumed that he hoped when he left Paris to reach Arab countrv, the British Government would not allow him to return to ^alestine. * Mr. Noel-Baker accepted the fact of the Mufti's treachery in joining forces against the Allies. He added: "We should be glad to have him in our hands." He had not heard a report that the British GovSimment was cognisant of and connived at the Mufti's escape, but jeadily denied it. The French Government had expressed regret and concern at the Mufti's escape, and were assisting in the efforts to trace him.
