WELLINGTON, June 18. I A move to oust the older men of the j Lahour Party from Parliamentary offi.ce I because of their age, wa^ made from tfie Auckland quarter at the annual conference of the New Zealand Lahour Party. A reply to a complaint about "the old men" in Parliament, was given by the national executive in its annual report in which it said the future candidature of certain members of Parliaj ment would he taken up with the Prime | Minister, Mr. Fraser. j Mr. James Roberts, President of the I Party, and himself one of the older I memuers, drew the attention of the j conference to the vigour of the MinisI ter of Works, Hon. R. Semple, who was present at the conference, as an ex5 ample of the contribution older men ! could still make to political life. Mr. | Semple himself told the Novemher con1 i'erence of the Party ahout plans to j hring forward at the next election some ! promising young men, particularly ; soldier candidates, including a panel of j V.C.'s. Two of those mentioned by Mr. j Semple at that time as men it was ■ hoped to persuade to stand for Parlia- | ment, were Mr. Keith Elliott, of ! Pahiatua, who had since decided to J enter the church, and Captain C. H. | Upham, of Canterbury, who had taken ! up farming.
