•5 f ft r f* f *\ I i * * * • V » * • WELL-ATTENDED MEETING There was a splendid attendance at the. usual monthly meeting of the Levin Red Cross Society, held on Tuesday last. The president (Miss xH. E. Bowen) occupied the chair and welcomed several new members. Mrs. R. A. MacDonald made suggestions. in regard to the comforts for hospital patients, and arrangements were made for members to /isit Palmerston North periodically. From kindly offering to take the first party herself, Miss Bowen, referred to the roll call, and again stressed the need for members tofcake an active part, and that everyone should be proud to be a mernoer of the Red Cross. Mrs. F. Wilson asked that publicity be given to the request for more machinists and knitters for Kiddies' pullovers. The sewing guild would be packing for Britain this week, and anyone interested could attend and see what the society was doing. She stated that at the time of the Napier earthquake she realised the value of good organisation. The Waikanae Red Cross was ready,. and several families were iccommodated there without delay. Mrs. H. B. Burdekin spoke of the Mission to Seamen, and invited 'members to an address to be heard in the R.S.A. Rooms on June 20 at 7 p.m. Mrs. Burdekin also made a plea for the Young Mothers' Play Centre, and asked for the loan of toys, erc., for this new venture. Afternoon tea was then served by Mesdames Tatton-Fraser and Hills, and a pleasant and interesting meeting was brought to a close.
