SERIOUS FIRE AT OPIKI

PARENTS AND CHILD TRAPPED A serious fire occurred at Opiki at about 12.30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, when a three-roomed dwelling on Mr. Noaro's property, occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Ransfield and their seven children, was completely destroyed. Six children, whose ages varied from 5 to 17 years, who were sleeping in the sitting room, escaped without injury, but Mr. and Mrs. Ransfield and their two-year-old ehild, who occupied the bedroom, were trapped by the flames and had to make their escape- through a small window. Mrs. Ransfield was badly cut and also suffered severe burns. Mr. Ransfield and the child were also badly burned and the condition of all three, who are now in the Palmerston North Hospital, is stated to be serious.
