Personal Miss Valerie Synnott has accepted a position with a well-known firm in Wellington, and has already commenced her duties. Mr. F. Bryan, who has been Qn the outside staft at Otaki under the palmerston Nofth Hospital Board, is resigning his position on ac'count of indiiferent health. At yesterday's meeting of the board at Otaki, mention was made of the splendid services rendered by Mr. Bryan. Sergeant and Mrs. Jack O'Halloran, who have been at Raratonga, where the former has been relieving, are expected to return to New Zealand this month. Mr. and Mrs. O'Halloran were formerly residents of Otaki, and hope to renew acquaintance with Otaki friends before proceeding to- their home at Auckland. Mr. J. K. Robertson. who has been acting as stationmaster at Otaki, will leave this week for seven weeks' holiday, which will be spent in the South Island. During his absence, and pending the arrival of Mr. Davies, the newly-appointed stationmaster, Mr. H. Watts will carry on as stationmaster. Mr. Davies is expected to take up his duties as from Monday next. Life of an Ambulance It was stated at yesterday's meeting of the Palmerston Nortli Hospital Board at Otaki that the life oi an ambulance was about ten years, and that the ambulances owned by the board had been in use for about eight. The opinion was expressed that if sold they would realise a fair value. Housing Problem Not only is the housing problem acute in Otaki, but perhaps more so where the Palmerston North H- -- pital is concerned. It was stated at yesterday's meeting that were accommodation more readily available, there would be more girls appiying for work at the hospital. • It was mentioned that there was a oiace of large dimensions available, but Mr. A. J. Phiilipps, managmgsecretary, suggested improvement at the building in the hospital grounds. The matron, Miss Baker, supported the view,- and Messrs. J. A. Nash (chairman) and J. Hodgens, together with the managingsecretary were empowered to give consideration to the matter, with power to act.
