Lockheeds are mentioned as tlie negotiating* firm. The news will cause considerable surprise in view of tlie coiuing American alteinjit to break Ihe British record of 606 miles an honr. It seems to substantiate claims t]iat Ainerican jet designs are far behind British. A Pan -American Constellation fiiimpleted a flight between Xow York and London airport in cleven liours S* mins., which is 58 minutes faster tlian Ihe j>revious record. The aircraft averaged 316 miles an hour.
