^ Mr. Tom Lock, president-eJect of the Xew Zealund Ilowling Association, last weck qnoted some interesting ligures to sliow how rapidly the anitual Dorainiori championqhip tournaments had increased in popularitj'. Mr. Lock was speaking at a prize-giving funetion lield by the Wellington ( lub. Wlien ihe tonrnament was held in Wellington iu 1 £)•!(), said hTr. Lock, tlie entries were: — Singles 2.SS, pairs 2(30 and fours 172, a total of 72(5. At Dunedin the following year the entries were 12(i0; at Auckland in 1945 they were 1724. At Christchurch last.January there was a record entry of 832 singles, fi(52 pairs, and 372 fours, or 1806 in all, an increase of 110 fewer than 1140 entries 011 'tlie Wellington 1940 ligures. Tn view of the expec.ted very large entries at the Wellington gathering next January, it would appear, Mr. Lock said, that all the bowling greens in the eentre would be required for playing purposes. There was every in-
dieation tliat the greens would be in good order, as special attention was being paid them during the recess, and the mild autumn weather had allowed luxufiant growth of grass.
