CHRISTCHURCH, June 16. With the result in doubt until tlie last pair of singles players liad reached the 17th green, and with the contest taking piave in perfect weather on a course which was in excellent order, tlie first inter-provineial golf match between Wellington and Canterbury played at Russley 011 Saturday, could hardly have been more successful. Wellington won the match by 12t games to 11/i after some fine contests which were eujoyed by very large galleries. lu the foursomes Wellington won four games to Canterbury 's tliree and in the singles eaeh team won 8 games although practically aii visitors were strangers to the course and liad but two liours previously stepped off the steamer. The Wellington side almost without exception displayed excellent form.
