Tersonal Mr. Tom Twist, the well-known sporting writer, is at present a patient in the: Wellington Hospital. Miss Joyce Merwood is at present on a holiday visit to Masterton. Miss Rose Egdell, who has been in hospital in Palmerston North for tne past month, returned to herj home at Otaki at the week-end,| much improved by the treatment received. A large number of Chinese from Otaki and distant parts assembled at Otaki on Saturday to farewell Mr. Kwong, son of Mrs. Daisy Kwong, who leaves shortly for England to pursue his studies. Golf Ball The Otaki Golf Club's ball, held at Te Horo on Friday night, was a great, success, all present enjoying the evening's entertainment. The arrangements were most capabiy carried out. Hardships in Britain An air mail letter from a nurse of the First World War states that the weather in England has been atrocions, and that "it just rains and rains, and blows and blows." Anything more unlike summer one couid not imagine. The crops were being spoiled and rations were becoming less and less. The winter, it was stated, was one of the worst! for many years, and with the short- j age of food matters were not tooj bright. A parcel of meats, jellies, jams and tinned milk received from) Otaki had been greatly appreciated. j One had no idea the pleasure it had ; given. What the overseas men ihought of England could be better , imagmed than described. Wants to Come to N.Z. i A short time ago the Otaki ; Borough Council received a letter from Miss Kathleen Stibbs, of England, expressing a dfesire to come to New Zealand and enquiring about the prospects of employment. As a result of the reply sent by the town clerk (Mr. Alex Wilson), Miss Stibbs has written further. Her letter says that she had been to the 1 High Commissioner, and had received an illustrated booklet from him. Miss Stibbs states that she would like to come to New Zealand, and would like a position in New Zealand, and hearing of Otaki would like to take up residence there. ' Before the war ' she had wanted to come to New Zealand, having heard and read so much of the country, but at the time she was unable to leave- her mother, who had since passed away. She had two brothers in the forces. Miss Stibbs stated that she had workec in offices, and was now employed b> the Education Department. Now. she says, she would like to work ai a farm-house, and help, when necessary, on the farm. She knew but little of farm life, but was willing to learn.
