NON-STOP WALKING RECORD
Received Sunday, 7.0- p.m. LONDON, June 15. A harrier, P. .T. Reading, broke the world nonstop walkin'g record by cover- I ing 129 miles 749 yards in 21 liours without onee leaving tlie White- GHy j track. His aehievement did not equal : in mileago. T. E. Hammond's record in | 1908 when he walked 131 miles 580 j yards in 24 liours but ITammond 's effort was not nonstop. Stretcher men | awaited Reading in case he needed as- | sistancce at the finisli but he waved ' them off and trotted into the dressing I room unaided. ■' Reading ate and drunk burley pudding and a mixture of glueose and sodawater as he walked. He did not reeeiv© special .rations during- trainiug.
