FOXTON WINS SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNEY
LEVIN CONVENT LEAD JUNIORS Some 300 pupils from Horo.vhenua district primary school s ^athered in Levin yesterday for a gven-a-side rugby tournarnent. The games througnout wero fast rnd ciean, with many bright movements which would have doi?e credit to older players. Play commenced at 9.30 a.m. and ^ontinued until late in the afternoon. All the schoois from Shannon and Foxton to Paraparaumu jcmpeted, and the organisation required was quite a large task. The manner in which the arrangements vvere carried out was in a iarge .neasure responsible for the imdoubted success of the tourna- j .nent. The winners of the senior ^cmpetition, Foxton, played convincing games all . day, and ,horoughly deserved their meritor'.ous win. The Levin Convent won ihe junior competition, playing good fooiball throughout the fcournament. The St. John Ambulance men were in attendance all day, and rendered the usual good iervice. The following are the results of the games played: — Senior Fist round. — Levin A 13, Otaki 0: Tries were scored by Rov Sciascia, Roy Spooner and Joe Reo, while Doug. Lang converted two. Levin A 9, Ohau 0: Lew Periti scored three j Lries. Otaki B 9, Te Horo 0: Tries scored by Cliff Taucher (2) and Maicolm Julius. Levin C 6, Otaki C 0: Tries were scored by Fred 3arnes and Neil Marshall. Foxton A 8, Shannon A 0: Tries by Lewis Burr and Jim Falkner, Keith Daw--un converting one. Opiki 6, Foxton B 0 : A penalty kicked by Mortyn Barnes and a try by Thomson Hill. Koputaroa 8, Waikanae 0: Tries were scored by Rua Williams and Alec Tatana, while Brian Stratton converted one. Foxton Convent 5, Poroutawhao 0: The I ury scored by Arthur Roebuck was converted by Jim Grey. Levin Convent 6, Manakau 3: Tries were scored for Convent by Clement Taueki and Tuki Parini, and one try was scored for Manakau by Eru Tewhena. Shannon B and Paraparaumu drew with no score, and 'lad to play on; after playing for some time, Shannon compelled Paraparaumu to force and thus j won the game. Second round. — Otaki B 3, Levin C 0 : Stuart Fox scored the only ! try. Foxton A 8, Opiki A 0: Tries vVc-re r.corea by Lewis Burr and Tom j Fulier, Keith Dawson converting one. Foxton Convent 19, Koputaroa 0 : Tries scored were by Arthur Roebuck (4) and Jim Grey, who ! also converted two of them. Levin I Convent 6, Shannon 0: Both tries ! were scored by Jim Hannan. The deciding and only try | came when the Convent half-back s received the ball from a ruck and passed out to Jim Falkner. Falk- : ner snapped up the ball and raced I ever to* score about ten yards from i the posts. The attempt at goal failed. Foxton came back intent to 1 even the gap, but time was against i them and the final whistle blew j with Foxton still pressing. T. Fulier, the Foxton five-eighths, played ! an excellent game throughout, and | a few more years should see this I young footballer representing the district. Ji|hior ! Levin ; B and Paraparaumu had npt scor- | ad at time, so played until Levin ' as compelled to force, givlng Paraparaumu the honours. Second round. — Foxton A 3, Ohau A 0: One try by Mostyn Robinson. Poroutawhao 6, Te Horo 0: Two tries scored by Doin Hapeta. Ohau B 21, Te Horo C 0: Tries were scored by August Ransfield (5) and Bob Hammond (2) . Paraparaumu and Ohau were forced to play overtime, and the game was subsequently won by Paraparaumu as Ohau forced the ball. Foxton 3, Poroutawhao 0: A try scored by Vernon Cootes. t Levin Convent 13, Paraparaumu ' 0 : Tries were scored by Peter Prcndeville, Brian Frederikson and Ray Timu, the latter converting two of them. Semi-Final. — Foxton Convent 3, Foxton 0: A try scored by Bob Bentley. Final. — This game between Foxton Convent and Levin Conveni. , provided some excitement and sur- ! prises, as the first try came to Foxton by Ralph Barnett, who scored about ten yards from the lins.
