Mr. Davidson's many friends will wish him bon voyage ano a safe return. Mr. Davidson expects to be away for three years'. There was a large and representative gathering at the funerai oi the late Mr. W. A. Hotchen, of Otaki. A' service was conducted at All Saints' Church by Canon Fry, who also officiated at the graveside. A Masonic service was also conducted, the deceased gentleman havmg oeen a member of Lodge Horowhenua while residing in Levin and more recently of Lodge Otaki. The pallbearers were Messrs. J. Davies and J. Partington (sons-in-law) , G. Manville (nephew), J. A. Kilsby, J. D. Cooksley and N. Larsen. A large number of beautiful floral tributes covered the casket, bearing testiniony to the high esteem in which the late Mr. Hotchen was held. Rateable Value The unimproved rateable value oi lands in the Otaki borough amounted to £84,574. War Memorial ! it is probable that application will be niade t'o the Otaki Maor: Racing Club to give the profits of ' heir next race meeting towards a memorial hall for Otaki. Borough Salaries • Salaries and wages paid out by the Otaki Borough Council amouni to £1950.- It is estimated that a rate of 7/5-8d in the £, including arrears, will produce £2298'.
