GERMAN SHIP HANDED TO NEW ZEALAND

Received Fridav, 7.0 p.m. LON DON, June 14. Discussions are at present proeeeding as to whether the 1400 lon dennan motorship daarden which was luuided over to New Zealtiud as shijiping repar ations, sltould be sold in Brilaiti or.sent to New Zealand. The daarden at present is at Tayport, Firth of Tay, where she was taken after the dennan capilulation. The vessel is re]iorted lo have soine damage to.the bottom whicli rc quires inspection. This is being carried out. The daarden, which was lniiH in 1040/44, was used chieflv as a fleel ser vice sliij) by the dennans and saw little service. She is fitted with torpedo decks and the crew's accoiumodat ioa requires some nlteration if Ihe sliip is (o be used in New Zealand waters. It is reported that tlie amount of tounage allowed New Zealand as reparations, lias been eonsiderably reduced because the nuniber- of.largest New Zealand sllijis lost difritig tlie war, wero on British registrv. The original tonnage allocation to New Zealand was reduce.i wlien the Egyptians succeeded in establishing clainis for consideralile losscs and as a result the total amount of dernian tonnage available for dislribution decreased.
