COUNTY CHAIRMAN SHIP The annual meeting of the Horowhenua County Council to elect a chairman for the coming year was neld in conjunction with the usual monthly meeting of the council yesterday. , . . : . , , On vacating thb :chair, ;.Mr. G. HV "Hudson) and* tne acting-engineer (Mr. W. H. Fraser) for their help in carrying out the work of the council. The council was entering ,a new sphere of operations, Mr".; Monk said, and although it would take Up a great deal of his time, he did not mind; it was worthwhile. Cr. A. J. Gimbiett, in nominating Mr. Monk for re-election, said that after his 18 years connection with the council, he could lpok back and see the work that had been done, and through it the naihe of Mr. Monk was borne and the part that he had played. The eoUncil had every reason to be pfdUd df that part. As to the future, thefb was some solid work and solid thinkihg ahead. He doUbtfed whethef the desired results would be achifeVed without Mr. Monk's guidance. The council needed his services now, more than ever before. Cr. J. D.
