Personal Mr. V. J. Bateman is a Shannon visitor to Auckland for : the weekend. , ■ Former Shannon residents, who have- returned to take up farming in the district are Mr. and Mrs. Eric Hollis. They have taken over a farm at Buckley., Mrs. L. Satherly, of Whakarongo, is a visitor to Shannon, where she is the guest of her daughter and-son-in-law, Mr.. and Mrs. B» Coulter; Main Road. Mr. Bert Wilkinson, of Wellington, was a visitor to Shannon on Thursday. He was the guest of his sister, Mrs. E. L. Hyde, Thomson Street. The friends of Mr. and Mrs. W. Easton will be pleased to hear that their daughter, Shirley, who has been seriously ill in the Palmerston North Hospital for many months, is now showing improvement. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Wylie, formerly of Palmerston North, 'have taken up residence on Mr. Dujany's farm, Lower Kingston Road. Mrs. Wylie will be better remembered as ihe daughter of Mrs. W. S. Forbes, Ballance Street. Driving Licenses Applications for motor driving licenses are not coming forward as fast as was expected. To date only fifteen have been issued by the town clerk (Mr. J. T. Bovis) . It :s intimated that with most of Shannon 's .servicemen home again, thc demand for driving licenses will be heavy this year. Social Club Dance The Moutoa Junior Social Club held a delightful dance in the Moutoa Hall on Thursday evening. A crowded bus brought dancing enthusiasts from Shannon, and there were also visitors from Levin, Foxton and Palmerston North. Competition dances were held and a delightful supper was served by a band of willing' helpers. Dancing continued until an early hour to the music of Billy LarkirFs band. Farewell Presentation A presentation was made at the Shannon railway station yesterday morning when the station staff gathered to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. R. Brown, who were leaving for Hatuma, to where Mr. Brown has been transferred on promotion. On behalf of the station staff, the stationmaster (Mr. J. A. Creagh) asked Mr. and Mrs. Brown to accept a'jwall'chiirfbr as a 'token of esteem from their friends and fellowworkers. Mr. Creagh expressed regret that Mr. Brown was leaving his staff, and wished them both every success in ' their new home. Mr. Brown suitably replied. Coming-of-Age Party A dozen or so friends gathered at "Lindore," the home of Mrs. E. L. Hyde, on Thursday evening, to celebrate the coming of age of Selwyn,' her youngest son. The menfolk spent most of the evening in the cosy billiard room, while the women guests gathered around a cheery fire in the sitting-room. In proposing the toast to the guest of honour, Mr. Tom Sunley said that he had known the Hyde family for very many years, and Selwyn he had known all of his twenty-one years. The toast to Mrs. Hyde was in the capable hands of Mr. W. S. Forbes. At about 10.30 p.m. the lights were extinguished and the twenty-one candles on the beauti-fully-iced birthday cake were lit and duly blown out by the guesi of the evening, who, witn the help cf his mother, cut the .cake and passed it among the guests. Selwyn was the1 recipient of many valuable gifts. Among the guests was Mr, Bert Wilkinson, of Wellington.
