The No. l.grass track was availabie for galioping, the going being very heavy after recent rain. Persuado (Chote) recorded 1.41 "for seven furlongs without being required. to do her best. She is i-n great order and is expected to give a good account of hersclf iu the Mangawhata Handicap. Finishing well, Roto Parera (Bro'Ughton)"shadcd Man's Pride (Cliristbnsen) at the conclusion of a mile in 1.53 2-5, the last seven furlongs being run in 1.39 3-5. Whackie (Broughton) fiiiished in front of Dileas (Bowness) at the' end of five furlongs in' 1.5 1-5, which was not bettered during the morning. The f uriner is engaged in the hurdles and the' sprint to-morrow, but the lalter event will probably bc his mission. Gold Moucy Song (Andrews) strode out freely over a inilo, the last seven furlongs occupying 1.41 3-5. Tula (Chote) workod lazily over six furlongs to register 1.23 4-5. After running the first two in 27 4-5§eo., Sir Bradbury (Bowry) was travelliug comfortably at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.9 1-5. Although they finished on ternis, Blanket (Broughton) appeared to be doing better than Hakim (Bowness) at. the coiupietion of seven furlongs r.uif in.1.36 4-5. They cut out the first halfmile in 53 l-5sec., and it was a very satiafactory elfort. After going fast early, Czarina (Buclianan) was tiring at the end of six furlongs in 1.22 3-5. Pellmeer (Bowry) daslied over three furlongs in 4Usec. Kahuraxjonga (Clutterbuck) was doing much better than Beneve (Pearce) at the linish of five furlongs in 1.10. Blue Chips (Buclianan) was responsible for the outstanding sprint by reeliug ofE six furlongs in the smart time of 1.18 3-5, the lirst. three being cut out in 38 l-5sec. She stayed on better than usual and should make her presence felt in the sprint to-morrow. Swift Jay (Bowness) had the mcasure of Newel Post (Broughton) at the end'of five furlongs in 1.8 3-5. Tlic former has been working exceptionally well, but may lack early speed to go with tne sprinters in the Rongotea Handicap. Condition of Abbey Lu Havildar (Clutterbuck) outstayed Iving's Sceptro (Rohloif) over the cohcluding stages of six furlongs run in 1.28. Looking very fit, Abbey Lu (Bowry) worked easily over a mile, the. Jast six furlongs ' occupying 1.30 2-5. The Waikato gelding will have the services of W. Ensor in the Manawatu Steeplechase and is expected to be in strong demand. Looking all the better for recent racing, Blackwater (Broughton) finished strongly to place five furlongs behind in 1.10 3-5, the last three in 42 3-5sec. For a jumper First King (JLiuchunan) wcnt well in accounting ror Donegal Bay (Bowry) . over seven furlongs in 1.39.- Although there was little between thein at the close, Prince Wanaka (Broughton) appeared to be travelliug comlorta.biy alongsidc Mary Jo (Chote) at the eoinpietion of seven lurlongs in 1.35 4-5, a smart gallop. The former is a greatiy improved hack und should talce a povver of boatiilg to-morrow. Mary Jo shaped surpristugly well for a jumper and may be on the verge of strikiug form. Peter Theio (George) was let olf with a short sprint down the straight, liitting out with plenty of d.ash. Arco (Ciiote) was being liicked up to linish with imperial (Broughton) at the end of seven furlongs which look 1.36 2-5. They" rau the first four in 53 4-5soc., but neither were particularly irnpressive. Tlie Jumpers " First King (Buchanan) was sent over a couple of hurdles and cleared thein satisfactorily. Wovereign Lad (Audrews) and Rink (Fagan) were associatud iu a bout over six hurdles, the former jumping splendidly to ov'ershadow his companion. Although he did not have much pace on, Red Glare gave a sound exhibition over the eountry, taking every i'ence ia his stride. The stablemates, Northfield (Hastie) and High Morale (Rohloff), were ussociated over nine of the big fences, the former giving a dashing display to be always well clear of liis compaiiion, who spoilt his showing by running olf at the second of the doubie. Northfield 's ell'ort was very encouraging in viow of his engagement in ihe Hack and Hunters' fciteepieckase to-. uiorrow. Lllerton Hall (Jcnkins), Golden Tide (Audrews) and Authoress (Fagan) liiiished in close order after negotiating uiue steeplechase fences. The former was the most impressive and cleared his fences in great style. Golden Tide rau off at the brush along the back, while she jumped very big at some of the other fences. Giving his usual proiicieut display, Gay Rouen (Andrews) pleased more than Epping (Jenkins) in a bout over nine fences. In a similar task, Penwilt (Bowry) gave a sound display to lead Full Pitch (Fagan). On the sand, Bay Robe (Collins) hit out with plenty ol'dash while getting to the end of six furlongs in 1.38. The Robemond gelding looks in great trim after his Otaki outing and will not lack friends in the sprint- tomorrow, His stablemate Duplicity (Collins) went in her usual free style while covering half a mile in 53sec.
