1 ♦ — 1 1 — Personal Mr. Bob Vinsen, Junr., has returned home after spending some time in the Palmerston North Hospital, following a football injury.' Shannon's other injured iootballer, Mr. F. Callesen, is progressing favourably, but it is expected that he wili have to spend about three more weeks in hospital. Rat Pest Prevalent A letter was received ■ by the Shannon Borough Council at their meeting on Tuesday evening, pointing out that a pest of rats was becoming prevalent inv some sections of the borough, and suggestIng that something should be done to exterminate the pests. The Mayor (Mr. R.E. Downes) stated that a systematic extermination Would have to be carried out over the whole of the borough at the oiie time to be effective, and it was decided that the town clerk (Mr.t J. T. Bovis) should get in touch with the chief officer of health and obtain informatioin as to the mosi efficient process for exterminating the pests. Industries Committee A short meeting of the Shannon Industries Committee was held on Monday evening. Those present were Mr. R. E. Downes (chairman) , Mrs. E. L. Hyde and Messrs. Bateman and Fitzgerald. With .reference to the canvass oi the town to ascertain what labour would be oft'ering in the event of an industry, being induced to start in Shannon, the committee pointed out. that already they had some 70 names of persons willing to oifer themselves for employment, and there was still a Iarge portion of the town yet to be covered. A further meeting will be held in two weeks' time.
