WORKERS' UNIONS SEEK AN EXTENSION

WELL1NGTUJN, June 11. A committee lo consider remits for sulnniSsion to the Government on State eontrol in industry, was set up at the annual eonference of the New Zealand Eederation of Labour today-. The extension of State eontrol in nu'inerous industries is sought in remfts from unions, which will l)e the subject t'or discussion also at the annual eonference of the New Zealaiul Labour Party next weelc. The j.rincipal business for the Fed eration today was the appointment of committees to consider remits on these and various other suhjects, including poliey, management and production, tho constitution and administration of thc j Federation, the Workers.' Compelisation^ Act, Factories' Aet, Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, and Iloli days ' Act. Hon. A. McLagan, rctiiing president. presided over the eonference which was attended by 1.80 delegates representing 200 unions with a total membersliip of about 1S3,000. The ' first sections of the annual re-j port presented hy Ilon. McLagan, werej «l,ealt with. The election of officers, in J cluding the new president of the Federation, is to be held on Thursday.^ The sections of the reporr dealt with and endorsod were tliose touehing on New Zealand 's transition from war to peacetime conditions in industry, tlie poliey of economic stahilisation, the Walsli report and legislation enaeted 1 . the Government.
