The draw for play will commence at 1.5 p.m. sharn from the ciubhouse.
Iiiter-Club Match Some 30 local players will travel to Otaki on Sunday next to induige in their first inter-club match away from home. Those players selected for play will be advised to this effect by the club captain when the final selection is made, together with travelling arrangements. , Club Notes The heavy lrosts which have been occurring are having their effect in no uncertain manner on many of the greens which are situated in the shady parts of the course. These greens are unable to have the benefit of the sun, thereby retaining the heavy aew caused by the frosts. With such fine weather, large crowds of local and vis- j jting golfers are naturally taking advantage of the pleasant playing conditions to fully occupy the links throughout the week, and particularly so at the week-enas. The nine holes for play are therefore being fully over-worked, particularly the shaded greens. As a result around the cup the surface is becoming very soft and slippery, and many putts simply refuse to stay on the intended line. To assist the greenkeeper all players are asked whenever possible to avoid tramping around too heavily on the greens, and especially around the cup, within a reasonable radius of the'flag. Players will be helped as. much as possible whilst the damp' conditions prevail, by the holes being shifted as much as possible every fortnight, thus avoiding a too tramped surface for putting. Many games are won and lost on the greens, as most players krtow, so for the benefit of all club members, the point is well worth noting for future play throughout the season, especially when the greens are feeling the pressure of a heavy winter and almost everyday play. One pleasing feature of the local season's pla-v to date has been the success of the long and medium handicappers, who are fully holding their own in club competition play. These players are the backbone and mainstay of any golf club, and their,
j eventual winning of a competition I is gladly welcomed bty 'stirtheit ffel1- , low members. The local players in ; | this category are to be compliment- 1 I ed for the very sporting manner in j j which they regularly atten'd each ; iweek-end of play, irrespective of | ! their scoring ability. Golf is onei jgame in particular that tends to t j dishearten even the stoute^t, and | ione can always solicit sympathy j j from a f ellow member should this I : necessity arise at. the complejiion of ; ; a round. However, the true golf er : seldom admits his fall from grace in j this respect, taking his good and bad rounds on their merits, and this , pleasing aspect is well to the fore. locally. So, long handicapper, your day is just around the corner, as 'was once the single figure golfer. 1
