Southgate and her children have' returned from a i.rip to Auckland. The engagement is announced of Margaret Ethel, only daughter of Mr. j. Beck, Otaki, and the iate Mrs. Beck, to John, youngest son ofthe late Mr. and Mrs. W. Siaue. Petone. River Erosion The fiims shown .at the RaUvvuv Hall on Friday night in connection with the Manawatu Catcliment Board and river- erosion v:crc very interesting, but on aceount of the very short notice given, the attendance was small. Typical conditions in the North Island were shown, while instructive and interesting pictures on the use of lana in relation to soil conservation ann prevention of erosion were alsc screened.
