Received Monday, 8.45 p.m. LONDON, June 10. The Royal Air Forcfe lost three Dakotas in Burma in the bi'ggest supply mission since the end of the war, but, raced the monsoon to carry food to Kachin hillmen whose empty larders threatened a famine. The War Office has released the story of "Operation Hunger", descrihing the 41 days' elfort to succour the fighting trihesmen who assisted the British during the war against the Japanese. The trihes had even eaten seedlirig rice and faced a serious prospect. Air Force Halifaxes and Dakotas drop'ped an average of 60 tons daily in deteriorating weather and completed the operation nine days aheaa of , schedule. , They dropped Z400 tons rice, 180 tons of salt and army supplies and in addition sent in 3600 tons of food overland. Two of the missing aircraft were found wrecked on mountainsides hnt there is no trace of the third. The Kaehins buried 13 memhers of the crew beside the two crashed planes.
