Birch has returned home after spending a holiday in New Plymouth, where she has been the guest of Mrs. V. J. Simpson. Mr.- Hec. Hermansson" is spending a convalescent holiday with his parents foilowing his recent illness in the Palmerston North Hospitai. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Richards, of Napier, arrived from Wellington on Thursday to spend a few days with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Richards. While in Shannon a family party will motor to Patea to visit Mr. and Mrs. Noei Doggett. Basketball Results The foliowing are the results of the Shannon basketball teams matches played at Levin on Saturday: — The A team defea*ted Otaki Aces 26 — 7, the B team defeated College Old Girls B 12—^4 and the C team won by default from Tuis C. The foliowing Shannon players were held back to compete in the representative 'trial games : Mrs. W. Gyde and Misses K. Nepia and. J. Pigott. Social Afternoon A successful "get-togetlier afternoon" was held last Wed.nesday when about 45 members of the Anglican, Methodist and Presbyterian Ladies' Guilds gathered for a social afternoon in the Presbyterian Church. Accompanied by the Rev. J. W. Martin on the concertina, all joined in singing "Hymns we used to sing in our childhood." There was an array of articles that were used from 50 to 100 years ago and all present were asked to name them. The greatest number named was by Mrs. J. Allerby and Mrs. A. Wylie. A winding competition was won by Mrs. G. Munford. General social intercourse and the serving of afternoon tea, with thanks expressed to the members of the Presbyterian Ladies' Guild for their hospitality by Mrs. E. L. Hyde on behalf of the Anglicans and Mrs. S. W. Carter for the Methodists, brought the afternoon to a close.' Rev. T. Coatsworth (Methodist Minister) expressed the hope that more of these "get-together afternoons" would be held.
