For the iirst time in 38 years, a Roman Catholic priest, the Italian Father Ferdinando -Tartaglia, of the Florence Arehdiocese, was excommuni cated for the duration of his life on a eharge of heresy. The Vatican newspaper Osservatore Romana, announcing the sentence, said Tartaglio spread falsc doetrines.
