KING AND QUEEN ON ROYAL BARGE

The splendid coneeption of the fireworks display was brilliantly refleeted from the Thames and fascinated t housands of watchers who were waiting for their -Majesties 1o jiroceed down the Thames in the Koyal Barge. The King and Queen, aeeoinpanied by tlie Prineesses, at 0 p.m. stepped abotird the barge and the eraft, escorted by tive police boats and a fire launch, reeeived a tuniultuous reception as it proceeded (0 West.ru inster. Added to tlie cheers was a chorus of sirens from river eraft. Five hundred loudspeakers rclayed a fanfare of trumpets as at 10 p.m. the King stepped on to a floodlit pontoon and gave the Queen his hand to help her ashore, and walked 011 to the terrace of the Houses of Parliament. Tlie most impressive moment of the day came when packed thousands on bridges and on bot.h sides of tlie river, spontaneously burst into singing " God Save the King." The eelebration ended with a brilliant display of fireworks which changed the Thames Embanknient into a fai ryland and flooded Cenlral London wilh a blaze of colour as roekets and star shells rose and burst, *hundreds at a time. Their Majesties watched the display and then returned to the Palace th rough erowds which seemed more elosely packed than ever. Their Majesties responded to the erowrl's insistent demand and appeared on the Palace balcony 20 minutes past midnight and acknowledged the great acelamation.
