HOTEL REPORTS SATISFACTORY
OTAKI LICENSlNG BENCH MEETS The annual meeting of the Otaki Licensing Bench was held at the Levin Courthouse yesterday. There were present Messrs. A. M. Gouiding, S.M., (chairman) , J. W. Rimmer, R. O. Hornoiow and H. Nic'oison. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. T. O'Rourke and W. Moynihan. The reports presented by the poiice and the heahh officer were ,on^idered very satisfactory. The -hairman made reference to the acVstating it was pleasing to havc these reports, which were the best for some considerable time. All renewals applied for were granted. The report of the health officer stated that various improvements suggested were well under way. It .was pointed but that there was delay in some instances, due to shortage of timber. The chairmar .'umarked that it was hoped that a no distant date the Jubilee Hotei wouid be rebuilt. Substantia, improvements were reported to nave been made at some hotels. The Bench has decided that licenses for bars at race meetings je £6 for two and £3 for each addiionai booth. Police Report The followmg is Constable Cal vell's report on the various Ot-akx .l'otels, and which was preseiitea a 'ne meeting: — Telegraph Hotel: All repairs are completed, except the repai'r of the north balcony, on which a carpenter is working to-day (June 5) . Completion is expected by June 6. Family Hotel: All repairs are sompleted except balcony repairs, which have been delayed for lack oi timber. Timber is now coming u. hand. Central Hotel: All suggested repairs have been completed. - Jubilee Hotel: All suggested repairs have been completed. The removal of an unsightly shed in the back yard was also requested by the police and health inspector. The shed has not yet been removed, but the owner of the premises has undertaken to do this as soon as icioour is availaole. Its presence does not actually affect the working of the hotel. ' Railway Hotel: All the work has been done, except repairs to spouting and down pipes. The licensee and the owner, in consultation, have agreed to this repairbeing effected, but the suppiy- problem has held the matter up will be done as soon as -the material is available. Racecourse booths: A marked improvement has been made here. All suggested repairs have been well attended to, though some are not quite completed. At a recent meeting the improved hot water suppiy, cleanliness of glasses and provision for comfort of patrons was quite marked. "The latest inspection . reveals that all the hotels are clean and well looked after. In nearly every case the buildings preclude a 100 per cent. result, but_ it is evident that all the licensees and the Maori Racing Club officials are willing, and even anxious, to meet the wishes of the health inspector, the Licensing Bench, and the police.'
