WELLINGTON, June 7. A reriuest by the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Board that uo action be taken in the diroction of the public tieatment of milk in Auckland, was declined by tlie C'entrs] Milk Oouncil at a meeting in Wellington today. After hearing representatives of tiro board, the council considered the repre sentations and it was lat&r announced by its chairman, the Minister oi' Heaitli (Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer), that tho council had reafiirmed its previous decisxon to recommend to the Government that in the interests of the health and welfare of tlie publie of Auekland, the treatment of milk should be undertakeii by a non-profit sesking organisation representative of consumer and prodtxcer interests. The case for the Auckland Metropoli tan Milk 'Board was presented this morning ' by Mr. A. E. Bailey (chairman), Mr. -J. B. Johnston (legal adviser) and Mr. N. R. Cliapman (secre tary) . Mr. Nordmeyer said he desired to empliasiso that, tlie Central Milk Coun- . cil was representative of the Government, produeers and consumers including women and children. The council liad been giving serious eonsideration l'or a long per.od to the whole question of milk trsfttment and had come- to the conclusion that in the interests of publie health, it was desirable it the' treatment of milk should be undertaken by a non-profit making authority. The Auckland Metropolitan Milk Board had suggested in effect, that the present companies should be permitted to continue as hitherto provided eertain improvements took place in their premises and plant.
