WELLINGTON RACES ABANDONED

WEELINCTTOTr.-'June 6.* The Wellington Racing Club's winter race meeting scheduled for July. 6 and 13, has been abandoned. Thi£ decision was announced tbiS evening'by the.rse.c-: retary, Miss D. E. Bray, following a meeting of the stewards' committee. Members of the committee inspected the track at Trentham oh Wednesday and • at the veonpljision . Qf the meeting in Wellington today, they issued the following statement: ' :lti • "The Wellington Eacing Club regrets to announce it finds 'it nece.ssary to abandQn its winter meeting .scheduledfor July 6 and 13. In coniirig to this decision the' cdmmitte'e wishes to state ' the abandonment has heen hrought about by the recpnditipning of - the southprn end pf tlje coprse propeiv. Although .the work is fairly' well iip to schedule, thbre has' been : liriavoidable delay caused by unforeseen difficuities with supplies of soil. It is considered there is an element of risk that adverse weather during the next few weeks would possibly render the newlyformed portion of tne course proper unsafe for riders and horses."
