WORK ON WAIOPEHU TRACK
| During the King's Birthday Iioii- ] j day week-end the work of re- i ■ opening the Waiopehu Track was ' advanced still further. Members of j the Levin-Waiopehu Tramping 'Club joined in profi table working bees on two' days, and it is now i 1 estimated that a new track has j been cut over half the distance between Palmer's Camp and the : former Waiopehu Hut site. Twenty members of the club lei't on Sunday and tramped as far as ] Palmer's Camp, where an early 1 lunch was partaken of and then the 1 party set off up the cleared part and re-started work. A consider- ; able amount of sawing through large windfalls was done, while , • slashers were used to advantage in the lighter debris. At the end of the day the track waa elear for a ; good hour's tramping above Pelmer's Camp, with the exception of ; several bad windfalls. Five members of the party . remained at Palmer's Camp for Ihe night and on King's Birthday were joined by another three wh) had come from Levin. As a result another good day's work was done. : '
