WELLINGTON, May 31. A hint that the saies tax on building j materials, clothing and footwear, will be adjusted this session of Parliament, was given hy the Prime Minister when replying to a deputation today from the Bominion Conference of the Returned Services Association. The question of the saies tax and also the exeess profits - tax on building materials, "had been nientioned by Mr. "C. J. Tustin. The principle of interestfree loans should apply to building loans for ex-servicemen in excess of £1500, particularly in Wellington and Auckland. It was felt more help should be given in the high-cost building areas. The Prime Minister said the whole question of building was being gone into and also the question as to whetlier the time had not arrived to adjust the saies tax on building and: other materials. The session was co'ming on and the saies tax was certain to be diseussed. There was the question' of the saies tax ou clothing, babie.'i' clothing, children 's clothing, Doots and slioes, and building materials. These matters were being gone- into.
