RED CROSS SOCIETY
SHANNON SUB-CENTRE MEETS A meeting of the Shannon subcentre of the Red Cross Society was held on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. J. D. Campbell presiding in the unavoidable absence of the president. Those present were Mesdames Campbell, J. T. Bovis, H. Wylie, J. Griffiths, Hately, E. Chester, A. Burling and J. A. Creagh (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames J. A. Easton and S. W. Barber. It was decided to make an appeal for beef dripping for the Food for Britain campaign, and for clothing in good condition for sending overseas and also for cakes for the sick and wounded now in hospital. Any of these articles could be left at Laurvig's Hall on any second Tuesday of the month, from whence they would be forwarded to the Manawatu Centre. A notice of motion was submitted for consideration at the next meeting on June 11 to the effect that the Shannon sub-centre meet only once monthly. Comforts for the Awapuni Home, namely face cloths, bed socks, hot water bag covers and knee covers, were still being collected. The secretary reported that Mr. Edmonds had kindly consented to act as auditor for the sub-ccntre.
