GREAT NORTHERN FORM

Arco is tackling the first division of the Cornwall Handicap and his prospects of winning appear brignt. The smaller field will suit him, and many- will be disappointed if the Coronach gelding fails to salute the judge. Tutere may find the distance and weight too hard. Royal Charter and Our Gold are good Northern performers. The latter filled a minor placing in a much stronger field last year, and by his form he may be considered as a possibility. Master Robin failed last week, but mofe is, expected of him this time. The most promising lightweight appears to be Leigh Hark. Lowry Bay is quite an old timer, and is capable of springing a surprise. In the second division of the Cornwall, Young Trent, who narrowly beat Battle Dance at Manawatu, will have to be at his best as he opposes a much stronger field. Abbey Fox has been running some good races lately and will command attention. Findon and Gay Tally are good performers when caught on their right days. Black Ace, Observatory and Saffron Walden are all in good form, ' and the winner may come from among these. Green Lane Steeplechase Tideover fell last Saiurday, but did not seem to be in a dangerous position. More should be heard of him soon. Bisquit is a sound jumper and 10.3 will improve his prospects. Speed King faded early in his last attempt, and the shorter distance should help him a great deal. Penrose Hurdles Glad Fox has a good chance of winning this event. Royce and New Battle are both northern jumpers, and both should not be neglected. Betterman and Patu Ra are sound performers and the former may concentrate on the big hurdle event. The rest of the field have not shown much form of late and Sir Emmett may be the pick of them. Hunt Club Hurdles The only two with form in this event are Royce and Lady Premier. ; Members' Handicap Black Beret ana Killeymoon will probably be the favourites if the t-op j weights run in the Cornwall Hancu- j cap. Peter Gregor has not run for j quite a while and it may take him i a few races before he returns to j form. Royal Glory, Regal March . and Nepeta are all good perform- i ers, although Nepeta appeals most. i Good Bay has plenty of speed and ! will probably be in the firing line at the finish. High Ideal has shown ' glimpses of form and he may be , considered as the lightweight pros- j pect. First Jervois Handicap Our Bridge is the speedy type and : weight: will not stop him; he has run some fine races this season. Form horses include Mallee, Winning Ticket and Bronze Royal. All 1 are capable of winning, but Mallee seems a little better than the otner two, although the Ellerslie track is the punter's graveyard ana many surprises are witnessed there. Brown Atom- has shown a glimpse of form this season, but whether he is good enough to win his div- : ision will be decided on Saturday. ! Panope and Our Dave are improv- i ing and this means that both are worth remembering. Second Jervois Handicap ; General Menteith, who has three wins to his creait this season js next to the top weight, and on a | long straight the Solicitor General is hard to hold off. Silver Wedding's i turn is near and her chance may ! come to-morrow. Bettermusk has been consistent all this season and it would not be surprising to see him in the firing line at the finish. 1 Kanga and Rampede are two form horses, the former has shown good promise. Fosseway has not shown form so far this year, but he usually deceives the public when he does win.
