higher wages demanded

WELLINGTON, May 31. Following a stop-work meeting yesterday, about 20 mutton slaugh- \ termen of the Gear Meat Company j at Petone presented a demand for i the payment of £7 weekly net wages : until the end of the season. The management said in reply that it was bound by regulation to pay £6 gross weekly. As a result the meh refused to resume work. Although the mutton season is now tailing off, it is not yet over 'and usually lasts into July.
