BIRTH UNDER TRAGIC CIRCUMSTANCES

Received. Thursday, 7 p:m. i NEW YORK, May 29. Mrs. Rhoda Wenger, of San Francisco, who has been unconscious since a car smash 011 November 30, gave birth to a normal healthy daughter at Allenton (Pennsylvania; hospital. She is still unconscious. Her corporal husband is still in the Washington Hospital as the result of the same accident. Dr. Schwartz said Mrs. Wenger isn't in a coma but only tbe vital organs which Avere independent oi the brain, appear to function and maintain life. Her condition was caused by severe brain liaemorrhages which completely paralysed her limbs apd facial and throat muscles, consequently she cannot niove, talk, eat 01- smile. The doctor observed, however, that she was apparently semi-conscious hecause her eyes moved and tears sometimes overflowed indicating occasional recognition of Adsitors. It was impossible to . determine whether she knew of the birth of her child. Mrs. Wenger is fed through a stomach tuhe and the - delivery' of the child was normal after a rapid labour. No anaesthetic was used.
